Returning to care work

I worked in care homes for the elderly over 10 years ago and would like to go back to it.

I've just seen a job asking for help for a elderly lady, half an hour at lunch time and half an hour at tea time. £10 per half hour. £15 an hour. It would be paid in cash. Do I need to declare this pay somewhere? Do I need insurance? Anything else?

You're supposed to declare any amount of money you earn to HMRC, even if it's far below the tax threshold, or just £5/year.

Most people obviously don't bother to file self-assessment if low earnings.

Most people would not get insurance to get the job you describe, but obviously there are reasons why you might want to get it.
