Renegotiating start date

Hi,

I've got my self into an awkward situation and advice would be appreciated.

I recently accepted a new job offer. Officially, my final day at my current work place is 10th March but I mentioned to my new employer that I could use my leave to bring forward my notice period from the 10th to 8th of March (a fellow employee did this last year).

My new company has asked for me to start on the 8th, however my current line manager has declined my request to use my leave as part of my notice and has asked me to work the full notice period instead.

Will this be a big deal to my new company? I was stupid and wish I had never brought it up but this is where I am.

Any thoughts about how to diplomatically handle this to ensure my new company doesn't get annoyed with me?

Thanks

Let the new employer know the 10th is the earliest you can start and that you don't want to leave the old employer in the lurch.

@cabbageking Thank you, I will do that. Just worried they will be a bit peeved with me!

Just be honest asap so they are not put to any trouble thinking you will start on the 8.
