but my HR Dept are less than useful and you lot are so nice!

On my application for maternity leave it says to state first day of mat leave, which for me is gonna be Tues 5th Feb. Then it asks for the first day of SMP and that has to be a Sunday??

So should I put Sun 3rd Feb or Sun 10th? What does that mean?

Thanks very much for your help (again).

SMP will usually start from the Sunday following the day you stopped work to have your baby.

from link

Sorry Blond - also on that link it says

"For babies due on or after 1 April 2007 SMP will start from any day you chose once you have stopped work to have your baby which means your SMP will start from the first day of your maternity leave"

That sounds like it can start on any day of the week?

Ah I'm not up to date with it all anymore

I guess that means it will start on the Tues for you, maybe your HR dept have not updated their forms

Wouldn't surprise me! Makes sense though.

Thanks for helping.

The law changed for babies born after April 07 in that SMP can now start on any day of the week (I think). It used to have to start on a Sunday.

The what was the DTI website would confirm it for you. I've been out of HR for a while now, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

yes any day of the week now, so 5th feb - sounds like they haven't updated their maternity policy.

Have a look here see the 'what else you need to know' paragraph.
