Informal chat, interview follow up - what do I ask

I'm about to take on a new team member at work (and in a new position myself), I am also a new manager so a complete novice to the process..anyway, the interviews have taken place and we have two shortlisted. I wasnt present for the interviews (thanks covid) but I did provide the criteria and have had feedback from those that did interviews and have shortlisted based on this. I have been recommended to call those candidates to have an Informal chat to confirm my choice of preferred candidate. I have no idea what to ask?? I don't want to repeat the interview questions, but I assume its OK for me to ask them to provide me with what appealed to them about the job? Any hints would be really gratefully recieved

The point of the informal chat is for you to see if that person would work well in your team/you. In chats I've done before I've asked:

  • What interested you in the role/what do you want to get out of this role?
  • What do you like best about your current role?
  • What are you going to bring to this role?
  • What motivates you at work?

Nothing too heavy or behaviour/competency based but hopefully give you a flavour of who they are and why they are applying
