I’ve been out of the workforce for 5 years and hope to return this year into something different from what I was doing before I went on Mat Leave and then decided not to return.
I’ve never had a career as such, more just did a similar type of job for many years. I grew to really dislike it and do not want to return to that kind of role. It was in Sales & orders, supplying stock to major retailers (I did not do actual Sales, more supporting the sales teams and dealing with the customers and their orders etc. Not public-facing).
Can anyone recommend any websites, books or career change advisors who can help me find some direction, narrow down my interests vs actual abilities etc? If an advisor I want them to be able help people like me who haven’t actually had a defined career before.
I wish I had done a nursing degree when I finished school and it’s a major regret, but I am too old to go back to Uni plus I don’t have the science quals, and childcare would be a huge issue. I’ve always found medical and nutritional occupations so interesting, but as I say I just can’t go back to Uni and don’t have the qualifications for entry. I need to do something that can achieve a reasonable salary so being a carer or HCA is not possible long-term.
So, I need to look at what else I could do. Another possible avenue that does interest me is in charity and volunteering as I’d like to do something that helps others. I’m was so sick of being the small cog in the wheel that makes money for corporate giants.
