How much do you earn

Have previously come across a similar thread on another forum and it was so interesting! Basically people commented with their job, age and how much they earn. I hate my job/industry and feel it doesn't pay well like I was led to believe but also feel I have no idea what's out there career/job wise and how much various jobs would earn so what I could do.

I'm 27, a solicitor in Scotland and earn £35k

OP posts:

JufusMum · 28/01/2021 09:23

45, NHS Admin £19k full time 42.5 hours a week.
NHS wages are awful.
Used to be freelance in corporate events but then Covid hit.

@Dpa2018

It’s threads like this that make me realise I’ll never be out of work.

Head. Meet. Desk.

By what you’ve said on this post exclaiming people are being stupid, you have basically given away as much about what you do as what I have. The only thing you haven’t given is the salary. Well, the NHS is banded so everyone earns what I do that does the same job. Which I haven’t even actually stated...
TheAirbender · 28/01/2021 09:24

Journalist - 40k but tax free given location

mmgirish · 28/01/2021 09:24

I find these threads really interesting but I always wonder of people are quoting a pre or post tax amount???

£53,000 - teacher - no management responsibilities - tax free country

Nursery practitioner in the north. Late 20s. Room supervisor role- just under 21K, and that’s at minimum 45 hours a week, often many more.
I will say though, even though the days are very long, and we are on our feet all day, the team of staff at my setting are absolutely brilliant, we laugh every day and because of that I never wake up dreading going to work (just over the years I’ve dreaded the 6am alarm but don’t we all)
The kids make it worthwhile too. I have often considered retraining as enjoyment for the job can only go so far, and maybe one day I will, but for now m, I’m happy.

I must say I look at some of these jobs and wonder what they even are. Project management- what projects are you managing? How do you get into that?
Finance- again, pretty vague?
Lots of people say they “worked their way up” but what kind of positions are entry level in your industries?

littlepattilou · 28/01/2021 09:29

@strangerontheinternet I earn 7 million pounds a month.

Can't say what I do as it's too identifying.

Dpa2018 · 28/01/2021 09:31

@peanacat you have 83 posts in that name.

I have, including this one, 9.

And all I’ve said in this name is wise up your data is getting trawled, and sold, and another post where I’ve advised someone to sort their car insurance and wished them luck.

Incyra · 28/01/2021 09:32

8.90 and hour.

Incyra · 28/01/2021 09:32

@MarieIVanArkleStinks

Posts from *@daisychain01 and @dpa2018* are the most sensible on this thread. It never fails to amaze me the sensitivity of the personal information I'm frequently asked for - from businesses, data-collectors, those Bounty interlopers on maternity wards etc., - who assume I'm going to willingly pass it on simply because they ask for it. Hell, no. The Bounty Rep's face turned the milk sour when she brightly asked to 'take my details' and was told she'd do nothing of the sort. But so few other mums were asking 'why should I?' Same at the Travelodge. Asked 'why do you need these details?', they breezily responded: 'terrorism!'

One valuable thing I've learned is how easy it is to get people talking about themselves (the number of replies to this thread is no surprise). They tend to oblige like singing canaries, with the bonus that you're preserved from divulging anything at all about YOURself. Then all you do is nod and smile away and they mistake it for personal interest. Best way I know of to preserve my own privacy without their even realising it. Works a treat on my MiL and certain colleagues!

So it's easy to imagine a would-be hacker has hit on the same idea. It ain't rocket science.

Seriously, nothing is going to happen. For all they know every single one of the posts isn't true....
MsTSwift · 28/01/2021 09:33

Run my own business so fluctuates.

I was shocked watching Wanted Down Under and an A&E doctor got £50k and autism support worker £40k and legal secretary £40k what the hell?!

notalwaysalondoner · 28/01/2021 09:36

Management consultant, 31, £125k plus bonus (~£25k) (London)

Weirdlynormal · 28/01/2021 09:38

@floopidy

Its threads like this that make me realize there is no such thing as the gender pay gap
How? I see what people earn ALL the time and I can assure you the gap is very real. Women can and do earn a lot, but men earn a lot more.

FWIW I will earn about 135k in my school hours job this year. I work in Financial Services.

I would guess the overwhelming majority are giving their salary pre tax.

I never bothered to calculate my salary after taxes!

Moonstone1234 · 28/01/2021 09:41

I was a fairly high earner (not now but have swapped money for time).

However is anyone ever shocked at some of the senior public sector roles i.e Chief Executive of Local Authority or Vice Chancellor or a University. My DS graduated a few years ago and I looked up what a VC earns (!!!!).

My God.... I think what happened when fees were introduced was that the universities were awash with money, didnt know what to do with it so paid themselves this massively inflated salaries.

Now with another DS at uni with his first year trashed we really do need to look at what they are getting and reviewing the £9k fees.

AlmightyBob · 28/01/2021 09:43

42, support worker with older people, promoting community engagement - £18,000 per annum. I am criminally underpaid especially considering how complex and demanding my job can be, but I love it.
