Is anyone here a Rewards Manager?

Hi All,

Just after a bit of advice. Am currently a HR manager at a media company and am pretty fed up in my role. I have been for many months but covid has obviously made me very wary of looking for anyone else.

However I'm really struggling at the moment and think there might not be any harm in looking at other roles although I think I'd like to move out of the HR role I have right now. It's pretty much a senior generalist role and whilst I don't mind many of the aspects of it, dealing with senior management and the way the company culture is going has made me realise that perhaps it isn't for me long term.

At the moment the company is very much one of those where you have to be overly passionate about the job and company to the extent where it is your life, I have never been that way inclined and see work as a job more than a career. The CEO has rebranded us the 'People team' which seems to mean we are to become employees therapists and bend over backwards for them constantly. I'm far too cynical about the working world to embrace this millennial mindset too.

I have been looking at jobs within HR but more specialised so I might be able to get away from a lot of the politics and relentlessness of it all. I think the reward management side of things definitely appeals the most.

When I completed my CIPD, reward management was definitely the part that I enjoyed the most, despite working for a fairly small company I look after all the benefits side of things and helped implement a new private healthcare scheme, I look after payroll, process pensions and have experience with spreadsheets (pivot tables, vlookup, etc).

I just wondered if there were any Reward Managers on here who might be able to tell me a little bit about their role and whether it might suit me. What you do on a daily basis, interaction with employees and management, what kind of team you work in, do you have to do presentations, what kind of salary range you are on, work/life balance, etc.

Thanks so much.
