probationary period in new job

Probabationary period (ime) is usually something between 3 months and a year, most often 6 months.

Often notice period during this time is one week (on both sides)

I agree. It varies. Some places as little as one month, others as long as a year.

depends on the job, and the employer.probationary period usually involves some goal/objective setting at start, then mid point review to assess progress, finally probationary review.

protects both empoyer and employee imo

V commom now esp public sector and NHS
