A long commute?

I’m on the day I need to submit an application for a university teaching position and I have decided not to. The job is one I’d love to do but it would be a one and a half hour train journey (it takes me to the doorstep of the university, about 25 min total to get to the station from my end)

I’m in my early fifties, if I don’t go for this I’ll likely do ad hoc teaching at our local medical school and be semi retired. My life includes the usual middle aged responsibilities but I’m finding it hard to let go of the energy of my younger years when I would have jumped at this.

Any experiences you’ve had out there that dealt with similar issues?
