HR pay messed up

I gave birth earlier this month, checked today to make sure my maternity has been paid which it hasn't. Been in touch with hr apparently they've messed up and forgot to put it through. They said as it's Christmas they can't authorise my pay until January as management are now on holiday. I'm so angry that they've left me with no pay over Christmas. Surely they could of done a same day bacs. Am I being fobbed off?

A similar thing happened to me, when payroll moved me from UK to International at the same place of business. They took 50% of my pay through emergency tax 2 months in a row (and I’d just paid out on a load of work expenses for a business trip to India). And it happened at Christmas too. They were able to advance me the money and then they deducted it when I got the tax back. I would argue your case and ask them to advance you the money and sort it out later, as it was their error. Point out you’ll have no money to feed your baby if they don’t. And put it all in an email that’s more factual than emotional, to make it harder to ignore. Once you’ve sent the email, call them immediately, as talking to a person on the phone will get a faster result than an email they can ignore. Unfortunately, given that banks will be closed tomorrow, you may not be able to get the money in the next 2 days, but possibly by the 27th, if they can’t get it to you today. Good luck!
