Volunteering roll call

Skribble · 22/10/2007 22:22

Just wondered if any of you do any volunteer work. I have contacted the CAB to see if they would like my services .

What do the rest of you get up to, might get some ideas for other work I could do ( I like to keep busy )

I am a school governor. Before that, I was a Samaritan - that takes up a lot of hours and I had to stop when DS2 was born

Skribble · 22/10/2007 23:44

I thought about childline or Samaritans but I don't think I could cope with that I cry at sad films and get very emotional.

CAB hours would suit as it has very limited opening.

my poo rocks!

the idea is, you go to the kid's home and talk them through a course tailored (by the staff) for their own needs - so, if you have a girl who drinks, self harms and assaults her peers, then anger management, conflict resolution, stress management and something about the effects of alcohol abuse would be put together, and I would work through it with her.

Skribble · 23/10/2007 00:12

Good luck with that, did you do a lot of training? Its more than I could cope with just now.

i used to volunteer in a resource centre - mainly used by assylum seekers, various rehab and such like. was fun tho hard at times. did anyone watch location, location, location? with the worst place to live - was there, and not that bad.

MorticiasMother · 23/10/2007 00:23

There is no ass in asylum

Skribble · 23/10/2007 00:24

But there is an ass here.

No I missed locationx3, wonder what impact it has on the places it slates.

anyway - if youre gonna do something - stick with what you enjoy - you can always train to be better at it, but you really have to want to that kind of thing.
