Third day back from mat leave and DS 18mo wakes screaming at 5am. Hand/wrist sore and then swollen from getting it caught in cot I assume. Trip to hospital for xray, all fine. Calpol and down for nap, then back at desk for 10.30. DS now can't go to nursery for 2 days as he's had calpol. Wakes from nap 45mins in when usually 2 hours due to pain Sad
Parents to have him this afternoon and DH and I to figure out tomorrow between us.

So I'll be working most of the eve tonight and today has just been shambolic so far.

I knew working and having children would be hard but just feel rubbish and failing all round. Can't do my work and can't comfort my son properly.

He can't go to nursery for two days if he's had Calpol? Why?

Hugs op. It's bloody hard working and having kids. ESP when they're young

Bollocks to that no nursery for 2 days after calpol rule. Send him back. That's ridiculous. If I kept my kids off every time they'd had calpol they would never be there.

A 2 day exclusion is for d&v. In future don't tell them about calpol.

Sorry this doesn't make sense. Of course he can go to nursery after having calpol! And why take him for an xray with just a sore wrist? Surely you just give them some calpol and keep an eye on it for a bit? If they can't move it/screaming in pain, THEN get an xray.

Yes it's hard. There is no denying it. But don't make it harder for yourself

tiredqueen · 09/12/2020 11:40

Also, a lovely lady in the supermarket told me that it would take you at least as long as you took off to get back into the swing of things with work. Don't rush yourself x

@Hotcuppatea
@tiredqueen nursery rule is no nursery for 48 hours if they've had nurofen/calpol as it 'masks symptoms'! That is turning out to be a bloody nightmare and unworkable. Yes think calpol rule will have to be secretly digarded.

@TotoroPotoro 111 advised x-ray as his hand and wrist swelled up which could indicate fracture and he was inconsolable for and hour at least. I don't think I've made it harder for myself, rather followed medical advice.

Just a vent really, was both looking forward to and dreading going back tonworl so emotionally all over the place.

Things will settle down. I promise. Its bloody tough juggling everything at the start.

And yes. Definitely ditch the calpol rule. Its unreasonable.
