I can't believe how bad my manager is!

I work part-time Monday to Friday. So 2 days a week are my non-working days (NWDs). I expect to be told when they are at least the Friday before.

I was told one NWD on Friday but despite requesting to know my other I still don't know! I worked on Monday, off today. I am due to work tomorrow but I will only be required in the morning, my manager will then say "use up flexitime and go". Another colleague has no work to do in the morning.

We assist a senior member of staff. I am assisting in the morning then senior bod is moving to another building a mile away and my colleague is assisting for the afternoon.

As a side but may be connected issue the organisation is implementing something for the first time today. The senior staff member will be doing 2 "jobs" in parallel, one in the morning with an early start and one in the afternoon with a late finish. The senior is paid very, very well and it is a rare type of job, think something like a specialist surgeon. Theoretically there will be 2 sets of staff assisting, one on the early shift and one on the late, there are not enough staff to do this.

Back to my issue. I may not work on Thursday (one colleague is already off) or Friday (two colleagues are already off).

It would be logical to give me tomorrow off when there is someone available to assist both morning and afternoon. By leaving it to later in the week, we will be short-staffed.

WTF can't my manager say when I'm working and when I am not? I can't plan anything, I can't book anything (so many activities have to be pre-booked now), I can't arrange to meet friends. I'm so pissed off with this. I tell management again and again, "let me know when I'm working".

Oh and I am expected to log on to my laptop at home to check when and where I am working.

I've raised this with the next level of management and I am treated like a nuisance.

I'm not a nuisance I'm barely paid the minimum wage, I have a critical highly sensitive job and I'm treated like dirt by management!

What does your contract say?
Arebyou in a union?

My contract is 24 hours a week. I have some flexi-time built up. All new members of staff are not on flexi-time, (they will no doubt work more than 40 hours a week but not be paid for it - people need jobs at the moment). I have the opinion of not being on flexitime, what worries me is if I do that they will say work 7 hours on day 1, then 5 hours ,then 7 hours and a half day of 3 hours to make up the 24 hours, so that will be 4 days at work rather than the 3 I have now.
Union.....not yet, maybe tomorrow....

This sounds an obvious question to ask, but what is stopping you from stating / agreeing what your NWD are? For example Mondays and Tuesdays are the days everyone knows not to expect you.

How long has this been going on for (not knowing what your standard NWDs are?). I'd get that sorted ASAP.
