Hi guys
how can you tell if you did well in an interview?

GreyishDays · 05/12/2020 15:23

I don’t think you can. Smile

Carolhh · 05/12/2020 15:30

oh dear the wait is irritating and exciting!

It is really difficult to tell!
Interviewers (in my experience) have always been welcoming and friendly and ended on a positive note, in both instances where I have been offered the job and where I haven't. I don't think there is any secret code - annoying!

Best of luck! :)

Carolhh · 06/12/2020 22:17

thank you . I have noticed though that in the interview where I passed I was told we will be in touch soon and the ones that I failed they didn't say that.

So I think if you hear these remarks, we'll be in touch soon/ shortly and try to get the results out as quick as possible.....these look like good signs that I have passed?

Like others, I wouldn't read anything in to that.
At the end of interview I would say the same to everyone.

Keep us posted, OP - good luck! 🤞🏻💕

hillarypcof · 08/12/2020 14:46

@Carolhh I had an interview today and now I am in your position - the wait is SO irritating isn't it!!! I hate not knowing and feeling in limbo. They said I would hear either way by the end of the week. Fingers crossed, and best of luck to you! 🤞🏻

AlexaShutUp · 08/12/2020 14:47

If the interviewers have any skill at all, you shouldn't really be able to tell.

nocoolnamesleft · 08/12/2020 14:57

Besides, the interviewers might think you're pretty good, and then the next candidate be even better. Makes it harder to judge from the vibe in the interview.

UsernameN0Tavailable · 08/12/2020 14:59

As a line manager who interviews people, you often don't know yourself. You can often really like someone and think they will do the job well, and then the next person you see blows you away. Similarly a person who was OK can be the best option when they're followed by 6 terrible interviews.

Always ask when they expect to appoint someone at the end of the interview. You always offer to the lead applicant before letting the rest of the pool know, because if your 1st choice says no you want to be able to go back to the 2nd option. If you haven't heard within 24hrs of when they said their last interview was then you aren't first choice.

hillarypcof · 08/12/2020 15:21

@UsernameN0Tavailable that is really insightful, thank you!

For mine, they have 2 full days of interviewing (today and tomorrow).

They said they will get back to all interviewees regardless of outcome by the end of the week. So, would you say, that if I have been successful I would be communicated that on Thursday?

UsernameN0Tavailable · 08/12/2020 16:21

Probably by Thursday then, but if you don't hear on Thursday it isn't a definite no. You would be surprised at how many people are offered a job and say no. They either get cold feet at the idea of leaving a stable job, or if they are out of work they're applying for lots of roles and are offered another one.

We go to our 2nd choices more often than you would expect, and it usually works out for the best. We wouldn't offer at all if we weren't sure about our 2nd choice, so don't worry if it does take longer to hear back.

hillarypcof · 08/12/2020 18:42

Thank you so much!
I'm sure I'll have an answer either way by the weekend, so I won't be going stir-crazy in my own thoughts for much longer.

They've said there are 2 positions going, and they are interviewing all day today and tomorrow - I would imagine that would probably make it ablut a 2 out of 12 (1 out of 6) chance of being successful. They said they were impressed with my examples and some of the things I had to say "wow, we've never heard anything like that before" - so fingers crossed nobody comes along between now and tomorrow who steals my thunder!! 😜

reginafelangee · 08/12/2020 18:48

As someone who is a regular interviewer I make an effort to try to give a polite and pleasant response to all candidates. Even if I love a candidate - I might like the next one even better so I don't want to give anyone the wrong signals. I won't make my decision until the interviews are completed.

DoubleHelix79 · 08/12/2020 18:55

Don't try ro read too.much into the interview.

I've ended up getting one job where I considered offering to cut the interview short (because the interviewer seemed less than impressed with my experience and personality) and one where the interview panel broke out in laughter as I left the room.

I've also conducted many interviews and always tried to make the candidate comfortable and give them a positive feeling. By the time someone gets to the final interview stage they are usually well qualified, so it's rare that someone does really badly it usually comes down down to sometime having slightly more or different experience or being a better fit personality wise.

hillarypcof · 08/12/2020 19:12

You're absolutely right. I've had some interviews where I came away feeling like I had it in the bag, only to be told I hadn't made the cut. Conversely, I've had it where I felt I could have done better, and I got the all important phone call! :)

So it really is a case of just keeping busy between now and close of play Friday I think. I will be informed either way, so I'll be put of my misery by the weekend!! 🤞🏻

hillarypcof · 11/12/2020 14:37

I was told that I would hear either way by the end of the week - it is almost close of play Friday so I'm presuming i haven't been successful? What would you guys think?

Thank you all for your tips and advice earlier this week! :)

Carolhh · 12/12/2020 14:54

OP posts:
Carolhh · 13/12/2020 00:08

i was told mid december. now waiting to hear back from 2 and I have done too much looking into the signs 'did I get it', 'no I failed'. 'No I got it' I think. lol

I've given up and best thing to do is keep applying untill any good news comes along!
