Want to change career - can someone help me figure it out?

I've just turned 29 and I don't want to stay on my current path as I just feel like I'm passing time and not really passionate about what I do. I am also a writer - i've articles and short stories published and am about it finish a novel. This is my true passion but doesnt pay much.

I graduated in journalism & literature and like many before me I have ended up in marketing. I progressed quickly from assistant to marketing manager. After that I moved abroad and used a CELTA to teach English for 3 years. I enjoyed it but after doing some research and shadowing an old teacher I soon realised how different and stressful teaching in the UK would be. I was a good teacher, effective and empathetic, but I found it very draining.

So now I'm muddling on with marketing. I keep being put on small client projects that are ok and I do learn from but dont love. These are some options I'm looking at:

  • going back to uni to do a Masters. So far I've looked at Applied Linguistics, Digital Humanities/Archiving in Heritage and a TESOL course.
  • joining a marketing team for a bigger brand in a sector I'm interested in.
  • I am also on a committee to help women in the arts and care a lot about the environment.

I know I don't want to continue doing what I am doing but I feel lost. How do I figure this out and what should I consider?
