Do I take a new job or better the devil?

Been in my current job a few years now. They've adjusted my hours due to covid meaning I can only do 4-6 hour shifts a day bit to take me up to my contracted weekly hours (which I need to make it work financially) I'm now some weeks doing 6 days in a row. The company is large, 200+ employees, very corporate. I'm at the bottom of the pile but that's ok.

I've been offered a job elsewhere which is same weekly hours and money but over 3 set days. Which would be amazing. Same industry and there seems to be good scope for progression. It's a small team of all women which does make me worry slightly that it might be cliquey.

I have children so have to consider childcare and 3 set days would make so much more sense.

I am now having a panic of is it 'better the devil you know' at the moment? If I don't like the new job it's not exactly easy to walk into another job these days.

I'd take the new job, personally.

In my heart I know I should take the new one. It's just fear of it going wrong and being unemployed.

Depends, I would look at what both jobs look like in the long-term. Would current job go back to 3 set days or something else? Where is there more job security? Which one is easiest to get to? Are jobs the same or not, which will you enjoy the most? Will booking holidays in school hols be an issue in either role (always have this issue!)?

My old job doesn't look like it's going to go back to longer days any time soon or even in the future.

The new job does seem to have better prospects.

I think I know the answer don't I?

Argh it's decision day today and I'm still so torn.

My current job is easy, I know everyone, get on with them, I'm told I'm good at my job etc.

The motivation for the new job is purely the hours being 3 set days rather than some weeks I'm doing 6 days in a row of 6 hours at current job.

How did it go on tuesday? Did you do it?

I ask because I am in a similar situation. I have worked oart time for 2 years, being there for the kids, working in a local school.

However, I am right at the bottom on the ladder, with no prospects. I used to be a successful manager but wanted work life balance.

It was great for a year or so, but then I realised that It wasn't doing me any good with my confidence, and the money is very poor. I recently had an interview for a better suited job, but it would mean working more hours and having to cover school holidays again.

I am crippled with anxiety over deciding whether to follow the money, career progression, job satisfaction, and benefits or stay where I am, with no money, no job satisfaction but I get to be there for the kids.

It's not that I am unhappy where I am, I just have that typical human thing where you desire for more, but don't want to make the wrong decision.

If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. Safe and secure and easy versus future, unknown and growth.............. :)

It sounds like a great opportunity. If generally you have access to childcare or holiday schemes even better.

My only point against is how secure is the sector you work in? If there might be redundancies because of Covid you might be less at risk in current job. Good luck with the interview.
