Don't get me wrong, I do have a work ethic and put 150% into what I do but omg...the politics. Just went for a job interview today but I don't think my boss likes me so prob won'y get it.
Plus I perform as best I can but somehow I am never quite good enough. At 42 I am fed up of having to be the best continuously.
Oh...and I have been bullied in the workplace. Id rather stay at home with my lovely cat.
Aibu to feel not all of are cut out to be a career woman?

@tortoiseshell1985

I feel like I'm working with angry and spoiled toddlers (administrator, law firm)
I felt the same (LA)

Yep, totally with you. I'm not a career orientated person. I just want a simple, stress and drama free job that I can get on with, go home and get paid.

I would love to work alone. Just started a new job in an office and the work is totally fine but I just find being in that cliquey environment so draining. If I could be on my own in a cubicle that would be perfect 😂 Or yes, ideally, at home with my moggies.

I love my job and like you I give it my all but the work ethic of some of my colleagues ( small team) drives me up the wall.

Careersmummy · 16/11/2020 09:13

Oh this is so sad to read. You really shouldn't feel this way about work. You need to look at finding a new job. I know maybe now isnt the right time but there are jobs out there. You should feel like your effort is appreciated, that your more than just an employee number! I want to give you a big virtual hug and tell you that 42 isn't too old to change careers to find your dream job! I'm a careers coach and I help women like you move careers on a daily basis. I can't guarantee you'll suddenly enjoy getting out of bed in the morning (I mean who enjoys that?!) But you should feel happy about going to work. Xx

There's a thread being led by Angliski, a career coach on the chat forum - all about changing direction/motivation etc. An interesting read and worth taking a look at?

Hi vintage, what is the name of this thread as I can’t find it? If you could link to it that would be great!

Useless with technology, I'll see what I can do. At the very least, I'll copy and paste thread title.

I'm a nurse and although I love being a nurse I hate all the shot that comes with it, I barely get a chance to talk to patients like I used say even 5 years ago. Thanks to all the shitty targets. Short staffed and even silly work place politics . Plus I work with elderly we get abuse from relatives because they can't see family's due to the current lockdown , I get there frustrations but I never made the rules and don't deserve the torrent of abuse

angeldelight1229 · 16/11/2020 22:31

I could've written this, right down to my dream job being an artist.
I'm a natural introvert so being around people all day is exhausting for me, even before you factor in all the office politics.
I hate having to be part of a hierarchy too and having someone telling me what to do.
No advice to offer unfortunately...except see if you can retire early?

Tumbleweed101 · 18/11/2020 06:25

My job is fine - I like what I do most of the time and have some nice colleagues in the mix. However I could more than happily stay home, do my garden and write books all day. It’s hard when your natural ‘career’ is a creative field that is hard to earn money from- for me this is novel writing.

burritofan · 18/11/2020 06:54

I love my job but there are things I’d much rather be doing with that time. Whenever I read job adverts, the first bit always sounds great, then you scroll down to all the responsibilities and think “That sounds like so much work” and then onto the person spec – some sort of superhuman highly enthusiastic go-getting gung-ho 110% machine – and it’s all so tiring, can’t I just get paid for pottering and reading books?

LilyLongJohn · 18/11/2020 07:31

I love my job and have the flexibility and can work autonomously and I get on well with my boss. I've have been working since solidly since I was 16 (so over 30 yrs) and the absolute monotony of having to do it day in, day out bores me shitless.

Lisyloo725 · 18/11/2020 17:22

For me personally, I enjoy the job but my colleagues are so cliquey - I can’t stand it. I can normally block them out as I’m ‘on location’ during the week and only with them for an afternoon each week; but covid = no external things allowed - so we are forced together.
We did WFH during lockdown 1.0, but then our boss deemed ‘being together’ essential - for the purposes of team building as well as getting some of the lazy arses to do their work!!! It’s so us and them. The original three - with their bitchy WhatsApp groups (men and women); I can’t stand it. Booo covid. ☹️ Sorry I have no advice but aspects of bullying here too - just know that someone who bullies needs to do so because of their own lack of self confidence. It’s not about you. It bloody hurts tho doesn’t it?! 😏
