Got home from work today to find a letter from University of Surrey inviting me to interview for the DipHE in Midwifery!!! Wahey! But it's only 3 weeks away...

Can't believe it. I was convinced they wouldn't even look at me - am so nervous and terrified I will screw it up. I know there are some midwives on MN - if anyone has any tips, possible questions, etc etc - I'd be very very grateful

congrats moomina and good luck
you need mears

nasa (was krocket)

Thanks, nasa! Why the name change (being nosey)?

Mears would be great. I haven't seen her around for ages though. Hopefully she'll see my cry for help...

Congratulations moomina, well done! There is another mumsnetter whose sis is a student midwife, hope she sees this as well as our Mears.

Hulababy · 22/10/2004 09:59

Congratulations. Well done.

Moomina,

Oh good luck! No advice but go for it!

Have thought a few times about doing this myself but probably not the right time while ds's are still little.

Is Pupuce a midwife too?

ScummyMummy · 22/10/2004 10:03

Well done, Moomina. I'm the mumsnetter Marina mentioned (I think!) and I asked for advice on my sister's behalf on an old thread which is here. She found the advice given v useful. I'll also ask her if she has any other info for you when I see her next.

Marina · 22/10/2004 10:36

Yay Scummy, you saw this - and remembered the old thread (more than I did )

nasa · 22/10/2004 10:55

moomina - I want to be rocket but it's already been taken although never seen a rocket posting on here. Anyway nasa was the next best thing I could think of!

Did you get some useful info?
Skate - pupuce is a doula I think.

Skate · 22/10/2004 11:28

Oh right, nasa - thought Pupuce had some role in labour/childbirth!

moomina · 22/10/2004 11:46

Oooh, thanks everyone - thoght this thread had died!

I'll have a look at that thread, Scummy - ta very much!

Couldn't sleep last night rehearsing hypothetical answers to hypothetical questions lol...

Big congrats and good luck for the interview

Am very jealous

Let us know how you get on wonb't you

moomina · 22/10/2004 11:51

Skate - I know exactly what you mean about timing - it's a really tough decision. Ds is 16 months and I am torn about it really.

But tbh, for me at least, there would probably never be an 'ideal' time. In the end I thought that if I didn't bite the bullet and at least apply anyway, I would spend the next 20 years finding reasons not to. How I will actually cope with it all if I do get a place is a big worry, however.

But, nothing ventured, blah blah blah...
