Change of hours

In November last year work agreed in writing that I could have my hours changed to help accommodate taking dd to nursery

We're only talking minor changes, coming in an hour later twice a week and leaving an hour earlier once a week. I make the hours up by coming in earlier on other agreed days

On Friday I was given a letter stating that "as discussed" my new hours would be 8:00-4:30 Monday to Friday and that every other week I would be on furlough

I was not involved in any discussion whatsoever!

MIL has dd on a Wednesday and I pick her up at 3:30. The new hours will mean I don't get there until 5:00 or later. MIL has said that she's okay with that but that might not always be the case

Do you think I should mention to HR that I haven't been involved in a discussion and explain that the hours might be an issue at some point in the future? I just think it might be a good idea to let HR know in advance

I would maybe start with what do they mean by “ as discussed” and then explain the backstory.

Speak to your line manager first- they should be your first port of callS

At any other job I would normally speak to the line manager first but in this instance it really would be a complete waste of time

My line manager authorises holiday but more often than not we end up taking holiday and then a few weeks later he will decide to authorise it if he can be bothered

I haven't posted the letter yet, it needs signing. It will go straight to HR which made me think about contacting just them
