I hate my promotion, WWYD

I am so desperately sad, WWYD. I got promoted even though I didn’t technically apply for it. My boss kind of flattered me into taking on a HUGE new role. Loads of responsibilities and travel etc, But I never received any pay rise, change of contract, travel allowance (I have to pay for it and claim back) and now I am seriously snowed under. It isn’t even about the money, although it is taking the piss, but I genuinely hate it. An awful lot has been ‘invested’ in me and this new role, WWYD. Please be kind I already feel really shitty and stressed and low 😢

I would leave but jobs are so uncertain and I feel backed into a corner. Also I earn a decent wage and those jobs are hard to come by. This makes it worse!

You poor thing Thanks has someone else taken on your old role?

Ohtannenbaumohtannenbaum · 05/11/2020 21:53

Speak to HR

I'm going through something similar and HR have been a godsend, but I'm also looking for a new job as the company as a whole isnt great to begin with

In what way have they invested in you if you're not getting an increased salary?

Trynottoworry · 05/11/2020 21:59

@thekoalassocks no I am still doing that job too! Thank you for your reply

@Ohtannenbaumohtannenbaum I feel for you too. I think I may have to contact HR. I hope you find a solution to your dilemma 💐

For a start

Wrote to your boss on email and state all of what you have said.

Google the expected salary for your role
And area. Does it fit?

If all else fails, decline your promotion ams state why.

Ohtannenbaumohtannenbaum · 05/11/2020 22:05

Yes definitely speak to HR.

If you're doing two roles then that's not fair, when you speak to them be honest and say that doing two roles is too much.

Do you think you would like to do the role if you were solely doing the promoted role? Or would you prefer to just go back to the old one? Tell them that, and if neither of these would solve your problem then you should update your cv, get your promoted role on there and start looking for something else.

You may not find something quickly but by taking positive action to leave and by speaking to HR it may help your stress levels by seeing that theres a light at the end of the tunnel Flowers

Relocation ok, but unless you were wanting to move anyway then they've just met the expeneses you incurred in moving to do the job they persuaded you to do.
But new systems? Either that's a resonable adjustment for disability or something they would have needed to do regardless of who is doing the job? Either way it's separate from your remuneration.

It's not a promotion if they've given you more responsibility but no more money.
