Civil service grade question

I am a D6 in FCDO a head of dept with a team of 20. Im about to have 2 more people added to my team. It means there will be 6 people of the same grade reporting into me. I get a 6% allowance for having the same grade report into me. Does anyone know if id be entitled to anything else or a grade improvement?

My understanding is this is why you have the extra 6% payment with any promotion being something you would have to apply for. You can of course see if you can get tda at a higher level but that is usually for a set amount of time to cover a specific circumstance. Be careful as they might just bring in someone of a higher grade permanently and then you would lose your role and the 6%. You really should be talking to your line manager.

Experience in another Department, I peer managed around 12-15 G7s for about 2 years and no grade uplift and some of them were paid more than me

Just looked at your grade which is equivalent to Grade 7 in most departments.

Thanks all. Im happy to have a conversation with my manager i just wanted to do some fact finding first as I've not worked in CS for too long but am aware of the certain HR nuances. Smile

Work in HR for civil service for about 10 years in different departments. Nothing to add except to agree with the comments - you aren't entitled to a grade uplift- if they wanted a higher band to manage the team , they would have to advertise and you would need to apply for the vacancy, providing it was a permenant one. Its not an unusual situation amongst your grade level and it sounds like the 6% is remuneration for the situation
