Changing jobs on maternity

Hi wise people of Mumsnet,

I am due to return to work in January after 9 months of maternity leave - received basic SMP during this time. However I've just been offered and accepted a new job.
Does anyone have advice on when to tell current employer that I'm not returning and to ensure I get paid for the annual leave I've accrued?

Hi,

It depends on your relationship with your current employer, legally it's with 28 days notice (usually). I was offered a new job, within my hospital
But a different department 3 months into my 12 month maternity leave and I let my manager know straight away, all because she was a great manager and I wanted her to have more than enough time to find a suitable replacement.

Thank you for replying and the advice Alisha! I have a great line manager so have told her, just worried about what HR will say now
