What does Delivering at Pace mean (EO role in Civil Service)
17

Asvan · 24/10/2020 23:14

Hi

I am applying for an EO role in the civil service. It is a role which I have been waiting to come up for a long time and I don't want to mess my application up.

The competencies that I have to provide examples for are:

  1. Making effective decisions
  2. Communicating and influencing
  3. Delivering at pace.

I have thought of example for the first two, but I'm really stuck on what to write for the third one. I mean what does delivering at pace even mean?

Also is there anyone here who could kindly check my answers before I submit my application?

    Thanks.

I don't know for definite, but I would imagine it would be working at speed/ stressful situations and still delivering. Making it up as you go in an emergency situation!

Getting projects over the line quickly but without dropping the quality of your work.

That would mean collaborating well with others, attention to detail, excellent teamwork and leadership skills, a focus on deadlines and tasks, and keeping the other vital people motivated to deliver too.

My interpretation would be the same as @KnobJockey.

Why the use of such unnecessary jargon?

Hello
It is not working at speed actually, bit more to it than that.
Here's the document you need- see p4

Delivering at pace is about how you manage your work, and how you balance multiple priorities at the same time. Think about how you set goals and regularly review your work to ensure you're on target.

Have you looked at the civil service behaviours page? It should be linked to the job application and is really helpful.

Google 'civil service competency framework'. Also worth cross checking your other responses against this as it sounds like you haven't already seen it. Good luck!!

Yep KnobJockey has it. Examples are usually delivering something that's taken a few weeks or a few days. Pressure to sort something quickly because shit hit the fan / you were asked to do something difficult by a (very) senior.
Lots of communicating, working with others to get it done helps with a good example .You can also talk about juggling with other priorities but also ok to be a "drop everything" situation (you prioritised).

Think it's called behaviours now instead of competencies.
Its delivering targets, teamwork, keeping stakeholders up to date, balancing priorities, and dealing with something quickly and efficiently to ensure as little disruption as possible.
So for example finding an error and escalating to the relevant people to get it fixed as soon as possible, so less errors to correct which means less money spent correcting errors.

Yes it is now called behaviours and this is what the competencies framework is asking for. I feel even more confused when I'm looking at this. I've been scratching my head all day Hmm.
