DWP Work Coach Application Process

SlayDuggee · 24/10/2020 12:52

I’ve applied for a Work Coach role at the DWP. I’ve done the video interview and received an email to upload my ID documents. Does this mean I have passed the interview?

I didn't have to give any info about what jobs I had in the past or where I was currently working. Seems like a different process for internal applicants. Can you show any managers in your department your application and ask for some guidance. I heard they will have a second round coming out so there may be a chance to apply again.

Clarencefloss · 29/10/2020 23:50

Ok so you must pay very close attention to the civil service behaviours which is attached with the advert. There will be competencies that requires you to demonstrate how they are met. You need to keep your answers concise and on point using the STAR format.
Situation
Task
Action
Result
The action you took is the most vital part of your dialogue it tells the interviewer exactly what YOU did given the TASK to resolve the SiTUATION with a positive RESULT.
Civil service jobs are difficult to get these days the format they now use is strict and you must use key words to get your point across. I could write loads of examples as they want the people who have actually understood their recruitment process. Also if you go for these kind of interviews again use your notes for guidance as this is allowed. Hope that helps.

Clarencefloss · 29/10/2020 23:54

Also due to diversity they won’t ask about backgrounds as this is irrelevant. The focus is you demonstrating how you cope in situations work, hobbies any examples you want as long as it answers the question. It’s quite easy when you practice a lot which is what I do ive always got the job using this approach always.

Clarencefloss · 30/10/2020 00:05

Look online for tips on how to apply for these roles they are everywhere. Lots of internal applications have been refused which means they either didn’t pay attention to what was asked for, or they simply aren’t up to the role, the civil service wants an overhaul and fresh blood which is why it’s pressured at video interview to weed out quicker.

Isn't it ironic that DWP Work Coaches are being messed about in their job applications?

Clarencefloss · 30/10/2020 08:39

Yeah it’s a faff for sure but also laziness on behalf of those applying. I studied for a week on the process and put together 6 answers 2 for each competency and memorised then . All depends on the effort you’re willing to make

youlittlecharmer · 30/10/2020 11:11

I've been offered another job - now having a dilemma on whether to wait it out for a formal offer from DWP or take this one and see what happens. I spoke to someone from DWP this morning and she said it could be weeks before my checks come back. Ah!

SlayDuggee · 30/10/2020 14:44

Just had my virtual interview for my ID check. I asked if it mean that I had passed the interview and the lady said yes and my application will be passed to allocations. I didn’t ask if this would go straight to offer or if I would be waitlisted. I’ve only put one location I can work in as the next nearest was 20 miles away so I may be wait listed

Clarencefloss · 30/10/2020 15:12

About a 4 week wait. Depends whether your other offer is permanent I guess

Clarencefloss · 30/10/2020 15:15

I’ve just had a provisional offer pending checks and availability of choices. Pleased but waiting for the location to be confirmed is the next hurdle. Don’t really want my second choice. Wait and see

Redrobin25 · 30/10/2020 15:22

Hi Clarencefloss, I’m in the same position as you. Just submitted my pre employment checks etc today . And I’m now waiting to see about location availability and hopefully a definite offer. Good luck to you! And I hope we don’t have to wait too long to find out!
What area did you apply for?

Redrobin25 · 30/10/2020 16:36

@Mayyaj

I’ve had an email back regarding the documents I uploaded they need further documents due to my name change n address, I’ve uploaded them let’s see what happens
Hi Mayyai, I had to enter a surname change due to my marriage. I’m just wondering if they will request a copy of my marriage certificate at some point now ? 🙄
Mayyaj · 30/10/2020 17:06

Hi Redrobin25

So I’ve been on a little rollercoaster with the whole RTW and ID upload due to name changes at birth, surname change at marriage and change of addresses .. lol I know!

I spoke to a staff from the SSLC team and he suggested to upload my photo id and marriage certificate on one document as you only have one upload option for each group

I also had to do the same for another issue and write a little declaration for that id on the document.

After loading both files a few hours later I received the email for the ID and RTW validation video call which I’ve booked for next week

Parsley1234 · 30/10/2020 17:19

I’ve been accepted through applying to DWP more by luck than judgement I only applied as a back up anyway as I want a closer location but those are being handled by an outside agency and not DWP so I applied and was rejected. Jeez it all seems so incompetent anyway I’ve got a 19 month contract which shd see me through this pandemic and hopefully my sons school fees

Clarencefloss · 30/10/2020 18:16

Hi red robin I applied for Exeter south west

Parsley1234 · 30/10/2020 18:21

@Redrobin25 @Clarencefloss
I’m Bristol

Clarencefloss · 30/10/2020 18:30

Well I wish you the best of luck you should be fine. Just to let you know that abbey wood always advertise for staff so when your contract ends keep that in mind 😊although it is a bitch to get to.

Parsley1234 · 30/10/2020 18:39

I’m hoping it will be a good experience I know all the regular staff are WFH and I think the plan is for 3 days at home 2 days office long term but new staff have to be in the office full time. I can’t believe it got it to be honest I just had to do the situation test then give examples of what I’d done in work then a video interview. 🥴

Parsley1234 · 30/10/2020 21:33

How is everyone feeling about starting ? I’m thinking it’s going to be really tense and all the job losses are going to be catastrophic - I’ve been self employed for 30 years I’ve lost my three businesses this year and this job is just hopefully going to see me through this horrible period

SlayDuggee · 31/10/2020 02:53

@Clarencefloss snap! I’ve applied for Exeter as well.

Clarencefloss · 31/10/2020 07:53

Slayduggee wow 😮 I did wonder when you said 20 miles away as that’s Torquay right!!! Don’t fancy the trek there every day so I’d have to weigh it up. Fingers crossed

Parsley1234 · 31/10/2020 11:07

The more I think about it the more I feel grateful I’ve got a job offer after this lockdown proposal today. My commute is 30 mins to train then 40 mins train then 10 minutes walk cost £400 per month petrol and train I’m hoping I can be transferred somewhere I can drive to mind you if lock down happens I might be able to drive in

Clarencefloss · 31/10/2020 13:04

Parsley 1234 Really!!! My god that’s a heck of a commute every day. Where is it Timbuktu??

Parsley1234 · 31/10/2020 13:33

@Clarencefloss drive to train 30 mins then train to Bristol TM 40 mins then walk 10 minutes I know it’s crazy as they had vacancies 10 miles away 🥴
It’s a pretty crap commute and only 24 miles but getting into Bristol is a nightmare plus parking but with lockdown I might be able to drive in

SlayDuggee · 31/10/2020 15:22

@Clarencefloss I could only select from Exeter, Plymouth, Torquay, or Barnstaple in Devon. When applied I can remember it mentioning Honiton or Newton Abbot
