Boss called out of hours?

Two Friday's ago I finished at 4 and my boss finished at 3pm. I know he left early as he told the team he had a MOT appointment for his car.

I left at 4 and got home around 6 o'clock. At 6:17 I get a call from an unknown number. I have bad anxiety about answering calls on my personal phone from unknown numbers, so I tried to be brave and answer but unfortunately I couldn't. I waited to see if there was a voicemail or a text but there wasn't. I didn't think it would be work as it was late.

Today he was back at work. He sent an email to my team and I recognized his number at the bottom of the email and it turns out it was him who phoned on Friday. He hasn't said anything and not mentioned anything to me.

Do I ask him why he phoned? I havent had any emails or feedback from anything.

I should add me and him have spoke about private things such as anxiety as I still suffer from it where as he had it years ago. Could it be that?

He might have pocket dialled your number. He might have lost track of the time, called to speak to you about something, then realised the time and thought better of it.

He didn't leave a message and didn't ask to speak to you about it today, so I think we can safely say that it wasn't important. If you really want to know, you can say that you noticed a missed call from him on Friday night and ask if it was it anything important.

Are you getting any help for your anxiety?

I wouldn't mention it. If it's important he'll mention it

I too don't answer withheld numbers, if it's important they can leave a message

Think you should save your boss' number so that you can be better informed about deciding/not deciding to answer it if it happens in the future.

I think way too much time has passed to bother asking why he had called.

If it was important, your boss would have mentioned it to you by now. Don’t worry about it.
