A "what would you do" one

I have had lots of IT software and Services sales jobs. I'm good at them. I earn good money doing them.

In the last 2 of them I have stepped sideways into more Operational roles. Jobs that focus more on customer satisfaction. The goods bits of sales without the stress of having a target.

I'm really bored though. Its incredibly flexible, I'm left to my own devices, I have a work from home contract, my employer loves the work I am doing, initiatives I've started, contribution I am making. But I'm soooo bored. I find the job very easy.

I'm trying to decide whether it's just because it's in covid and I can't go and visit customers or travel and that once that changes the job will get busier and more interesting. Its a global role.

Or should I look for another sales job? I know there are some out there even in covid times. Yes I would have a sales target again but at least I'd get paid commission and I would be busier.

I'm 45 and I need to feel more stimulated but it's a trade off with stress and pressure.

WWYD?

I think I should add that I am incredibly grateful to be employed when lots of people are being made redundant and I do not take that lightly at all. I hope my musings are not seen as disrespectful to those who are losing their livelihoods. I do not take it for granted at all.

Have a look and see what's out there ?
Or ask current employers if there are any initiatives or projects that you could support on in addition to existing work ?

I’m a teacher, I left for a corporate job, was bored stiff. I prefer to be over worked and underpaid (more fool me). It was the right decision -except for the hours I have to spend tonight marking exam papers.....

Can you be very specific about which part of the role you're missing? Is it the customer contact, or the adrenalin rush of meeting targets, the buzz of the office environment, or something else? Because you might be able to engineer an added element to your current role without all the upheaval and uncertainty of restarting at a new company altogether...?

@NamedyChangedy I want to feel more engaged I guess! I'm seen as a nice to have not as an integral part of getting anything done which is good if you don't actually want any responsibility but makes me feel quite peripheral. I would love more customer contact, and this is getting better... Not much chance of a busy office environment any time soon... I guess I do miss the thrill of the chase as well....
