Delay on start date

Hi

I was offered a new job last week, a couple of days after going for my interview which was positive.

I agreed to start my job on the 2nd November via email. I've yet to receive my contract, but today they sent me an email apologising that due to an internal issue they want me to now start on the 23rd November. Two weeks later. It doesn't give me a very good impression of the company if we had already agreed to a date.

I asked when I would receive the contract and they said it will be sent out today, so should receive it in the next couple of days.

Do you think I should be concerned?

Thanks

Not necessarily. There could easily be perfectly legitimate reasons for the slight delay, and if they said your contract will be sent out today rather than hedging on it, that sounds positive.

Have you resigned a current job yet?

I worked at a very big bank where this happened all the time because of HR snafus. It wasn't anything sinister.

Thanks, I feel a bit better. No not handed in my notice yet, so it's ok.

They sent through the contract an hour or so later, so they clearly want me which was what I was most concerned about.

Thanks everyone 😊
