Asking to return to a job

About 12 months ago I applied and landed a job within the NHS. It was just a bank position but plenty of hours were offered and it suited me at the time. I gave notice after 6 months because my circumstances changed and I secured a better job elsewhere. I left on good terms.

Post covid I have no work, new company I worked for has folded. I would like to go back to the NHS bank position. I have the email for the manager I worked for but, how can I word the email? Or would it be better to phone? Any advice gratefully received.

I would phone then follow up with email to confirm what was discussed. Draft the email before you phone so you know what to say. Don't dwell on getting a job because the other company folded, just say something along the lines of you are available for work if there is anything available and how much you enjoyed working there previously. Fingers crossed for you.

Thankyou - I have called this morning but the manager is on annual leave this week. The guy I spoke to remembered me and told me to email the manager and he would mention it to him and say I had called prior to the email.

Sounds positive, even if the manager doesn't have a vacancy they will know you are available and might put your name forward to other departments.

Oh my!! The manager has just emailed from his holiday Shock There is a position about to become available and he's going to check if I am still on bank. If I'm not, I can still apply for job and hopefully I can land it again Smile

So glad I emailed!!
