Feel like they preferred my maternity cover

Hi all,

I work in a relatively small business, around 100 people. Mostly all small departments so my role was previously only me covering etc so didn't really have team mates as such.

Prior to maternity I would say I got on well with most, a few of my female colleagues I found quite hard work and whilst we had a decent professional relationship they certainly weren't people I'd be friends with outside of work, and vice versa.

Since returning without a handover from the person who was covering, I've been trying to piece together what's been happening and what still needs picked up. I'm finding lots of things not done correctly or not done at all, despite being on my plan for them in my handover. Fair enough, a lot going on the last year.

However, everyone I speak to mentions how it's a shame my cover wasn't kept on and how great she was etc.

I feel like I've become the bad guy for returning and putting her out of a job (my job!) and that as she was quite outgoing and really friendly with this clique of female colleagues I don't get on as well with, she's seen as much better at the role.

I'm good at my job but I have struggled with confidence in the past. I'm quite introverted so I don't think this helps either!

Anyone been through the same /have any tips for handling this??
