Parish Clerk Interview Questions

VillageGreenPreservationSoc · 04/10/2020 12:18

The PC clerk has resigned as his health is poor, and a few people have suggested I apply. I'm fairly sure I could do it, even though my background isn't particularly in admin, but I'm worried about the interview. Any Parish Clerks prepared to share the sort of questions I might get?

If its not too late, yes I am a Town Clerk. They will want someone who has local knowledge or an interest in village life. The job will be very varied so you will need a wide range of skills, be very organised, and be able to think on your feet. You should also say that you are interested in learning new things (you will need to pick up a basic understanding of some legislation in the Local Government Act 1972). You will have responsibility for the finances of the village (called being the Responsible Financial Officer) so if you have basic bookkeeping or accounting skills that helps, if not just saying you are willing to learn. Communication skills are essential, you will be dealing with the public and councillors a lot and will sometimes have to diffuse tricky situations so say you are good at that. Good luck, let me know if you have any specific questions!

That's really kind and extremely helpful. I'm so pleased to have had a response. Honestly - thank you. Really helped. I may well have some questions in the next week or so.
