Selling yourself to a team you've never met...

I've heard about a team that wants to hire people with my kind of skills. Not yet advertised so if I could sell myself well, they might literally write a job description that suited me well. Hours, skills, tasks, contract duration. Would still (I guess) be externally advertised & competed for.

I'm not a gabby persuader, that ain't happening. So I'm not sure how to sell myself when I don't know and can't easily find out about this team, how they usually work, what skills they already have in house, how I would complement, what their usual employment terms and expectations are (etc). There is some info about their business plan, though.

Has anyone been in this position with potential employer, and how did you proceed?
