Secondment

Hi, I was seconded to another department to help out as they were stretched staff wise. Was initially meant to be 3 months, then 6, and now after 9 months I have been told I am going back to my old department at the end of the month.

The one I'm currently in still hasn't resolved their staffing issues. If anything it's worse than ever.

There has been no communication throughout, no paperwork.

The job I am currently doing is making me ill, physically and mentally. I have just attended a meeting in which all members of this department have been told we have a new contract being sent today.

My current line manager is off sick today.

Can they force me to stay in this department?

I don't understand. You've already been told you're going back to your old job.

I'm just worried they may do a u-turn. During the meeting today they acknowledged there was a demand for more staff in this department, I am keen to know what my rights are.

Don't panic about a u turn unless it happens.

When you say no paperwork, was everything literally verbal - so you have no evidence at all of anything about it being a secondment, or about duration, or about returning to your role. All verbal?

Yes, all verbal. So on paper I still work in the other department.
