Lunches

I'm looking for ideas to take into work for packed lunches. Pre covid I would take either a salad or cook extra at the evening meal so I could reheat the leftover for lunch.
We can't use microwaves anymore so looking for thing I can eat cold. I can't have a lot of bread so trying to avoid sandwiches.

I will try wraps but does anyone have any other suggestions?
Ideally quick and easy to make in the morning or something that can be pre made the night before?

How about getting a thermos flask they do small ones perfect for pack lunches and will keep food warm till lunch time.

I've had exactly the same issue re microwaves as I avoid bread and always took leftovers previously.

I've been having salads, but I've been spending a little bit more and treating myself to the deli 3for £7 packs of things from M&S. the range is wide and it means I can keep my salads interesting - I've had various flavours of chicken, prawns, calamari, olives, rollitos, koftas, quiches and tortillas etc.

However Im already planning to do as an above poster said and invest in a thermos if this is still the rule after Oct half term.

If you look on the Food/Recipes board there's some useful and informative threads about this topic on there.

Salad , maybe a pasta salad?
Or buy a flask and take something you've heated in the morning
Fruit and yogurt
Cheese and cracker/ picky bits

What's the logic behind not using microwaves???

yeOldeTrout · 08/09/2020 21:27

7% chance of transferring something ... that instantly dies being nuked (I guess). I'm a sandwiches & crisps & tomatoes person but I guess OP doesn't like any of those.

I used to pack up a chunky salad in a "Tupperware" type container packed in a cool bag with the frozen salmon acid to keep things cool until ready to eat. So a selection of cold new or sweet potatoes, marinated chicken or hot smoked or poached salmon, a selection of nice leaves, halved baby tomatoes, steamed green beans, butter beans (dressed in vinaigrette whilst warm then added to the salad when cold). A small tub of salad dressing inside the salad box to dress the food just before eating. Yum. 😋. Don't forget to bring your own cutlery. 🌹

"frozen salmon acid to keep things cool " should read "frozen packs to keep things cool". Ie the packs you put in the freezer first... wouldn't it be lovely to have an edit function here? 🌹

Frittatas are great

Couscous salad
Pasta salad
Wraps with various fillings

Logic over microwave is flawed. Too many people touch it but the kettle is ok???? I've tried to challenge it but it just easier to follow the rule for time being.
Thanks for the ideas. I've ordered a flask and added some of the suggestions to my shopping list 😀
