Anyone ever been under managed?

Bit of background been with company 18 years in middle management type post. Huge changes in 6 months all of top management have gone new team in and many redundancies.
I am expecting redundancy purely because most of my layer of management has gone and also because I’m not being included in any of the forward planning etc.
What work I am given is just dished out week to week and I have to keep asking where and what do they want me to do each week. Previously was involved in lots of projects so never had to ask as my role was clear.
Anyway my question is how do you handle this? I’m waiting to be let go and have made peace with it so do I just potter along? Why won’t they tell me my fate? It’s so odd being paid but some days I could sit and read a book and no one asks me what I’ve done no accountability. I’m doing whatever is asked of me with gusto and being pleasant and positive. I have plenty of evidence but I just can’t get my head round no one caring what I’m doing! Any advice greatly appreciated.

I was once, I really floundered and still occasionally have nightmares about it 20 years later. Exactly as you said, there were days when. I may as well have stayed in bed for all I achieved and when I tried to tell a director subsequently (couple of years later) he told me that could never happen!
Eventually I got a new boss, got better trained and managed and got promoted before giving it all up to be a sahm.

Yes, me too, have even mentioned to my LM that I feel under utilised as I am only being given basic tasks, and was told not too worry about it...Have no job satisfaction at all at the moment.
Feel like my self esteem & confidence is rock bottom. New manager due to start and have been told that I will be able to mould him to what I want..? Where as I would really like someone to take an interest in what I do and offer both positive/negative feedback and suggestions areas of development. Not sure I even know what my roles actually is anymore. Sorry no real advice to offer, am on the look out for a new job, just not sure what I am looking for as this has skewed my perspective.

Yes, absolutely under managed here too. I can feel my skills slipping away just from lack of use, so I know I need to move on - but my manager is incredibly happy with me and pooh poos any projects or deeper work I suggest.

I see it as a safe job, paid far more than previously for very little effort and I'm not stressed at all. Maybe it's karma from my previous jobs Grin

I think I would move on if it wasn’t so well paid for what I do, partly as I have been there so long. I also feel like we are engaged in a game of bluff and damn it I want my redundancy I’ve worked hard for them for many years.
It just feels so odd I keep telling myself to just roll with it no on can accuse me of not trying to interact!
@Lightsareonnobodyshome it is affecting my confidence and self esteem because I have to watch others doing things I used to do and be praised for it. My mind boggles at how they are running things.

Sounds like constructive dismissal to me.

SSomething to consider.
