Hi
I don’t know if this is the right place to post or if anyone can give me advice.
So at the moment this is just an idea , I don’t know if it’s something I would even be able to do .
I am a student about to start the 3rd year of my degree , to then go on to complete a PGCE. I have just been made redundant from my part time job , which was evenings , I won’t get another job that fits around my children . I am also worrying as I will be required to work 8-5 for my PGCE and then obviously same hours when I’m qualified . I’ve worried a long time about how I will manage childcare for this .
I have a 13 year old son with autism . Whilst he doesn’t require medical care , due to his condition he cannot be left alone and I can’t see that he will be able to for a good few years . He used to attend an after school club , but it closed down .
The issue is - and I know a lot of parents in the same situation - that our circumstances are not catered for . Most after school clubs are ran by schools , and those that aren’t only go up to age 12. Also , my son comes home on school transport and whilst the transport are happy to take the children wherever they need to go, only this one club were happy for the guide on the bus to call the manager when outside so she could go and get him off the bus ( the guide cannot leave the bus , nor let the child get off the bus without an adult there - obviously ) .
Someone mentioned to me that I should look into setting up an after school club to cater for this situation . I don’t know where I would start or if it would even be possible !
I have bad credit so don’t know if that would affect any funding or business loans , and I don’t know where I would start but just wondered if anyone has any advice ?
Like I say this is just an idea in my head at the moment that may not ever get off the ground , but there seems to be a real gap and a lot of parents unable to work because they can’t get care for their children as they are older than the usual age for needing childcare .
Thanks for reading 🙂
