Another civil service question

I'm applying for an SEO role and a grade 7 position. No civil service background.

All fine - but under behaviour what on earth do they mean by Seeing the Bigger Picture? Do they mean thinking creatively about policy, or about a personnel situation?

And is it possible to practice for the online verbal reasoning test? I haven't done verbal reasoning since my eleven plus!

It means being able to think more widely about the implications of a project including political, economic, social, environmental and other factors, and being able to take into account the needs and views of a variety of stakeholders.

Seeing the bigger picture means they want strategic experience (ie delivering to strategy). Do you have senior manager experience at corporate? If so the delivery expectations would be very similar.

There should be a booklet with all the behaviours listed and what they expect to see for each grade - have you managed to find that?

So woolly expectations that you then firm up. SWOT, PEST analyses, meeting with stakeholders and working with them to tweak high level requirements but not so much you get over or under scope.

Thank you @givemewaffles, I have just had another look at that.

Can anyone clarify something else? What format should the previous skills and experience section of the cv be in?

I will already have written a 500 word statement including evidence of key requirements in the jd.

Can I just put a standard cv format in? Ie jobs and key achievements?

Hi everyone,

Just came across this thread as I’ve been searching for what to put in the ‘skills and experience’ section of Civil Service job applications (like the OP).

I’ve been putting all my skills and experience on the CV itself (listing each job I’ve had, then putting the skills I learned and used in each job underneath), so haven’t understood what I can add in the skills and experience section.

Would be interested to hear how other people have approached the skills and experience section.
