I thought I would ask here as several of you seem to work for them.
When I joined I understood it was "cradle to grave" sort of thing.
Now I am not so sure

Sorry what's your actual question? Are you a civil servant?

LOVELYDOVEY05 · 30/07/2020 21:23

Yes I am
Trying to find out if they still give you funeral benefit
as I was told they would at the start but I have a feeling
this may have quietly been withdrawn

Are you referring to a death in service benefit, which pays out 3-4x your salary if you die whilst employed? Or is there something else?

daisychain01 · 01/08/2020 06:18

Death in Service is still provided to Civil Servants. It is linked to the Pension Scheme, but I'm not sure if that's what @LOVELYDOVEY05 means - I don't understand what 'funeral benefit' even is! A bit ambiguous.

I don't know of a funeral benefit as such. The civil service pension pays out to your relatives if you die in service. Some unions have funeral funds. Don't think I'd expect it of an employer.

I’ve never heard of this, but it’s made me smile. Only in the Civil Service would this even cross someone’s mind.

I mean to cover the actual death eg funeral coffin etc
I phoned PCS union and they said they no longer do this.
Yes it is very Civil service ish!
