My local FE college are looking for language tutors and I'm toying with the idea of applying - does anyone know what the approximate hourly rate is?

It doesn't say in the ad

(Don't want to waste mine and their time if it's not worth doing)

My mother used to lecture at A Level at an FE college, and she got good rates - more than the equivalent school teacher. However, this was about 15 years ago. I think she was on about £20 per hour back then.

I would guess about £28-30, but it's just a semi-educated guess.

ah, it's worth pursuing then

cheers!

Depends on the college. There is no national pay rate as such. I've seen it advertised as anywhere between £16 and £25 depending on the level taught. However, be warned, that will only be for classroom hours. Any preparation, marking, assessment and admin (of which there is HEAPS) is not paid. Consequently it can work out as being quite a poor pay rate, especially if your timetable includes big gaps where it's unfeasible for you go do something else, so you may as well stay at college.
