Hi everyone,

I am in the process of completing an NHS application form and in some desperate help please!
It is for a Band 2 role, for a lab admin/support worker.

Currently, I am a uni student and will be starting my third year in Sep 2020 year in Psychology.
My last paid job was 6 years ago where I worked for an insurance company. Most recently I have done a 6 month placement at a primary school as a teaching assistant just before the lockdown.

One of the desirable criteria is “Experience within a healthcare/laboratory environment.” I have never worked within a healthcare setting so have no idea on how to approach this criteria.

Any ideas will be much appreciated!

I'm a medical lab assistant and I had zero experience in it before getting the job, had spent my whole life doing admin roles and it's a mix of admin and medical. I did some research about Pathology in general and as I had an A level in biology went along the lines of having always wanted to get into this type of career. You've had admin roles before so have experience of confidentiality, accuracy, data protection etc and customer service (which are all a big part of the role). Just show that you know what the role involves and that you have an interest in the subject.

Feel free to PM me if you want to know anything more ☺

I would put a sentence in saying why you have chosen healthcare, or anything science related for the lab bit. You haven't got the desirable experience but at least show interest. Good luck

Thank you both for your replies. I've managed to add a couple of sentences saying I have an interest in science and healthcare.

With regards to the Supporting Info section, it asks for max 400 words.
The problem I have now is that I have covered each essential criteria and my words are currently at 800 words, having spent the last three hours condensing it down from 1200 words.

I'm really struggling with how much detail I should include in the supporting information.
To give an idea of what I have done, I have taken a criteria, said I am competent in that skill.. etc etc..., and then given a brief example.

Am I doing this wrong? As there are 9 essential criteria I need to write about, and each criteria I have about 60-100 words. I also need to include why I want the job and explain gaps in employment history.

Any advice much appreciated!!
