Redundancy meeting what to expect?

Hi,
I’ve just had an email saying redundancy meeting, we need to speak with you tomorrow regarding the next stage of redundancies. What do
I expect? Never been in this position before! X

I'm sorry to hear that. I went through this a few weeks ago. They explained the business reasons for redundancies and told me how I was affected.i was told about my right to respond to their reasons and suggest ways to minimise or prevent redundancies. This was all followed up with a letter. I was told when the next meeting would be, which was two weeks later.i was also given details of the payment and notice I could expect to receive.

@OfUselessBooks thanks for your reply! So there’s probably still a way to go in the process then! I’m hoping they’ll hold off until end of August,I’ve only been there 22 months so my notice period may be two weeks?

I had an email to say I was 'at risk' then meeting following day to explain why I am at risk - 7 days later another to confirm redundancy .. it's a horrible process and I feel for you - good luck!

If you have only been there 22 months then they can dismiss you without it being a redundancy as you have not been there 2 years.

Thanks everyone I did indeed get made redundant today though I’m not sure why I was the only one, because I’m a short time worker I was told x

@Samcj02 I'm really sorry to hear that. It's a brutal process and very hard to go through.

Always worth getting a bit of legal advice I think. I did and came out with some extra money. They have to demonstrate a fair reason for selection if there are others doing the same job. X

@OfUselessBooks thanks! I’m the only one who’s term time only in a day nursery, they just said there’s no business need for my job anymore and that was that!

Ugh sorry OP. It's so rubbish isn't it sounds like it was a "last in first out" decision so nothing to do with you personally.

With your qualifications and experience in a nursery I'd be looking out for nannying jobs asap, registering with nanny agencies etc - so many parents desperate for childcare this summer and when term starts because of wraparound care being cancelled. Sometimes you'll find families happy for nannies to bring their own children along too if necessary. If people are considering teenagers and uni students then your nursery experience should be an advantage.
