New job offer

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice, I have been offered an amazing job at a local school, they have asked for an enhanced DBS and if my children have ever been subjected to a court order or on the protection register, well 12 years ago at the time I was in an abusive relationship and my two children were placed with my parents and put on a protection plan, until I was safely housed, fast forward to now I have been with my current partner 12 years we have two other children and have had no authority involvement.
I am worried my job offer will be taken because of what happened years ago. I think I know it is going to be a no

I would contact the school and tell them the circumstances and answer the DBS check truthfully.

A school I worked at took someone with a criminal record (nothing that would affect or harm the kids obviously) because the applicant had been upfront about it.
