Hello all
I recently gave an interview in banking and the employer is asking about my previous payslips , which also 3 years back. ( The general rule of thumb is that they generally ask salary slip of just the previous employment )When questioned they said its part of the protocol of hiring. I am too keen on the role but I think I will be benched mark accordingly since my previous 3 years back salary was low and then I might be given a very low number. The current salary is high and I think honestly they should benchmark my future salary based on this. What can I do? Any human resource personnel here who can advise what can be done. I too keen for the role and don't wish to give it a miss

They want to see your bank statements for 3 years? Why? Redact the amounts?

Depending on the role in banking this will be part of the pre employment screening. Basically they are checking for possible fraud or corruption. This is more important at senior levels but in the interest of fairness they will ask all levels.

Pre employment screening of this level is usually conducted by a third party so the employer doesn't actually see any of the evidence unless theirs an issue.

If it is a financial role, do they want to see the pay slips as proof of the fact that you have received a steady income and aren't susceptible to stealing money. I don't think it will be to negotiate your salary.

I have to provide information to my employer about my financial circumstances to show that I'm not at risk of selling on information/blackmail.
