So I lost my job back in April was made redundant. I have been looking for a new job and apply for anything that comes up and is suitable. Sometimes I hear back saying ‘oh it was really close between you and other candidate but they were just had more experience ect.

Are they just saying that to let me down gently/soften the blow? Or was it really that close?

Just wondering as have applied to jobs across various sectors and sometimes the feedback is you were really close ect.

There is a good chance that it was close, which shows you do interview well. It sometimes is just a case of someone else being slightly better.
It's really hard because close doesn't pay the bills. But something is out there for you.
