Work

Has lockdown made you consider a career change?

I'm thinking maybe for some it will be a forced career change if your jobs don't exist. For me the time off has given me space to think about what I do. I'm self employed and have had minimal income since March.

I've come to the conclusion that I don't want to still be doing the work I do in 5 years time but that's as far as I've got.

Anybody else?

Definitely thought about it.

I too am self employed and it's been completely sh*t. Things are unlikely to be anywhere near normal in my industry until Spring next year (all going well)

It's made me re-evaluate a lot. Mostly how i've revolved my entire life around a business that at one point it looked like might crumble due to something completely beyond our control.

I'd love a more stable career, sick pay etc. I'd love to be able to have a no responsibility job where I could clock off and not have to think about work until the start of my next shift. In theory at least.

After 10 years of being my own boss, setting my own hours and so on, I don't know how well i'd get on to be honest! So no decisions as yet.

Yes, can I put thumb twiddling and navel gazing onto any job applications. I have three months intensive experience of this.

I feel like I could literally walk away from my field of work after 25 years and start afresh if the opportunity was there.

I've cracked on and spoken to the college about courses today and arranged work shadowing. Check me out.
