Am I reading too much into this..we are facing redundancy at work and received email saying I need to take ret of holiday during furlough? Does this mean bad news and I’m at risk? Or do I have too much time on my hands and overthinking this? Blush

Or that you are one of those being kept and those who are being kept they don’t want having too much holiday left?
I think you are overthinking it. Think how much holiday you would normally have taken by start of July and if you haven’t take it then take some.

@louisetrees Thankyou, never thought of it that way, I suppose in this situation you automatically think of the worst case scenario! X

Many places are either asking people to take holiday or making it compulsary to use a certain % of their holiday by specific dates. Imagine a whole workforce wanting to take their whole annual leave entitlement in the last 3 months of the year - it's not practical for the employer.

I work for a tiny company (10 people), and we are being asked to be 'sensible' about it, but also told that we can carry forward holiday in line with new govmt guidelines.
My husband works for a huge company (000s of people) and they have all been told (whether they are furloughed or working) that they must take half their annual allowance by end August and no holiday will be carried forward.

To the person who asked about taking holiday on furlough - you can, but I think the employer has to make your salary up to your full salary for that time.

newphoneswhodis · 29/06/2020 13:40

As long as you are paid 100% for your holiday days this is legal.

It doesn't mean bad news in itself, no. A company looking to make cuts will be very sensibly looking at other things as well as redundancies, and making sure those left (as well as those who are made redundant) don't have tons of holiday outstanding is part of that. It means the remaining employees aren't disappearing on holiday every 5 minutes once the redundancy exercise is over, and it means the redundancy bill will be lower (therefore possibly protecting more jobs).

Some of my department got made redundant and some didn't. However, we all had to use up accumulated holiday during furlough. Good luck.

ChicCroissant · 29/06/2020 14:07

Just to echo what PP have said, I've also heard of companies who have asked workers to take holiday built up during furlough at the end of it. Not a guaranteed sign of impending doom, and I hope it isn't in your case!

Samcj02 · 29/06/2020 14:12

Thanks everyone, it’s the not knowing which is worse, we were told we’d find out the next steps at the end of last week but not heard anything, it’s frustrating x

I have just returned from Furlough, we were asked to take holidays so that everyone didn't have all their holidays to take in less time

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 29/06/2020 15:45

We've been asked to take 60% holiday by end Aug - furlough & non furlough.
As my org is paying 90% for everybody which is recorded as 2 days unpaid, no change for hols.
If on 80% gov't cjrs org needs to pay you 100% when you are on holiday.

OfUselessBooks · 29/06/2020 16:51

I really feel for you sam. I've recently been made redundant, and the not knowing part was horrendous, almost worse than the news itself! I hope it's good news for you. X

Samcj02 · 29/06/2020 18:07

@OfUselessBooks Thankyou! It’s definitely awful not knowing x

It’s an awful time, I know of a few people that have been made redundant whilst on furlough, one of the people’s employers insisted that they took holiday that was owning, before they were made redundant. Good luck OP, I hope things work out ok for you.

Samcj02 · 30/06/2020 19:54

@Roselilly36 Thankyou
