Anyone else on furlough for the forseeable future

Just wondered if anyone else is on furlough for the forseeable future? My OJ has just received a phone call where his manager said it will probably be September before they go back! I genuinely think at this point they will be made redundant but he is feeling so down about it, everything just feels like it’s getting back to normal and he is struggling to process the news! He doesn’t want to start job hunting yet as he would get a few k in redundancy so he is in a kind of limbo! Anyone else?

450 in my firm are still on furlogh, the hope is that keeping them there means they do have a role to come back to. It veru much depends on the sector / industry though.

I will be one of the last to go back, until gatherings, toddler groups, parties etc can go ahead I don’t have any work to do.

The Government will only be paying furlong for a certain time period & the amount of money is being reduced over time. It's been on the news. Your employer, may make up some of the money. So no, it won't continue forever

@MadM0nthMadness sorry I think I may have worded my op wrongly, I just feel like a lot of companies are going back now and didn’t realise quite a few people are still on furlough! I do payroll so know the ins and outs of the furlough scheme like the back of my hand u fortunately! Was just wondering if anyone else was still in the same position and are on furlough for the forseeable future.

@AriettyHomily this is exactly the same thinking as my oh company, that hopefully if they are kept on furlough they will have jobs to come back too! He is in manufacturing and none of there customers are open so they have no work to do! It’s such scary times though isn’t it, kind of in a limbo! On the plus side I can stop worrying about childcare for the six weeks now!!

I know some people who are on furlong
Due to illness
Or
Their company has not been able to open yet like hospitality

The U.K. furlough scheme will not go on indefinitely.

The end is due on 31st Oct, so that's the latest date by when people will either be told they have a job and work to go back to or alternatively be offered redundancy if their circumstances make them eligible.

It would be a good idea to get your CV ready and start looking for other work, if the signs are you're in an industry that has suffered badly due to lockdown and the ongoing risks. You may be surprised at job opportunities available, it's still unpredictable, both negatively and positively. If a new job comes up that better than your furlough pay, it may be more advantageous.

I'm still furloughed and not likely to go back until September either. In education sector but private company.

grandmasterstitch · 27/06/2020 19:13

I'm still furloughed but I'm hoping I can go back soon!

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 28/06/2020 02:39

I'm on part-furlough. 2 weeks on and 2 weeks of from 01/07. In full pay though. I don't think my employer has a clue what to do with me long term.

Hey.. I've been on furlogh since the 1st of April and no word of when I get to go back. A lot of staff are now back to work at my company which makes me feel even more inadequate! My employers now know I am pregnant so I think they are almost trying to keep me away if that makes sense? I've only been at my role there since August last year so I feel like they'll just drop me at some point. Feel really down about it if I'm honest.

I will be on furlough until 1st November, my boss can’t afford for me to go back before that.
During lockdown our business was totally closed with 0 income. It’s reopened now & is getting busier.
I work for a tiny company (I’m the only employee) unless the business closes completely (it won’t) I will definitely have a job to go back to.

Been on Furlough since end of March and no mention of me returning yet!
I work in the motor trade and although open again it's a staged return for us. Having been there 7 years and lots of experience I thought I'd be one of the first back but found out today 2 of the team of 4 I'm in are already back.
One girl has been in her role 4 weeks and chosen over me! I feel truly un needed and doubt myself, I'm now worried I'll be on the redundancy hit list, trying to stay positive but I've never been out of work and now feeling bummed. 2 kids and a mortgage to think about
