Hi,
My place of work is going to be starting the redundancy programme soon, I’m currently on furlough and am very worried for my job. Part of it is due to the fact that contributions will need to be made towards furlough From
August, I however do not pay NI or pension due to my earnings, if she decides that i am at risk of redundancy would it be reasonable to ask her to keep me on furlough as it won’t cost her anything....at least until the scheme
Would start to cost her? after all this is what the scheme is for! I haven’t been told am
At risk yet I’ve just got a feeling I’ll be selected!

Sorry wasn’t very clear, I’m due back in September so would it be reasonably if I were to be selected for redundancy to
Ask her to keep me on furlough until then as I don’t pay NI or pension so it wouldn’t be costing her?!!

It's not unreasonable to ask. You may be on notice then anyway?

Samcj02 · 20/06/2020 10:19

Yes maybe I hope so, I’ve only been there just under two years I’m hoping giving the circumstances they’ll extend the notice.

I'm in a similar boat, currently furloughed but if I'm made redundant before Oct (only on 4 weeks notice) I will certainly do all I can to get them to extend it if only to buy me time to get something else.

It will be costing her in terms of holiday being accrued, any other benefits and any admin costs of employing you, then from September it will cost a proportion of your salary as well. But nothing wrong with asking the question.

Samcj02 · 20/06/2020 12:33

@flowery my holidays and wages are pro rata I’m term time and get paid it in equal payments throughout the year, unsure how it all works! But I’ll definitely ask the question!

@CloudsCanLookLikeSheep that’s the thing in my area there are not many jobs about at all and lots of people in the same situation! That’s the thing I just need to buy some time!

Term time workers get 5.6 weeks holiday a year same as year-round workers, since last year.

It will cost her more to keep you employed longer, you will accrue holiday until your termination date. It's not loads, obviously, but it will. Still definitely ask though!

@flowery Thankyou!
