DH and I started a small side venture last year and although it's not exactly booming in the current environment, we didn't expect to make much initially anyway so we're managing.

But, I don't enjoy working with him! It's only a side venture to our "real" jobs, but it feels as if he's constantly going on about what needs to be done and after the initial setup, the admin and day-to-day running of the business has pretty much fallen on me...under his naggy direction! Angry

Do any of you work with your partners and how do you ensure a good balance between your personal and work lives? I know it's more intense right now as we're both WFH, but I want my husband back, not this hybrid husband/boss creature! There's no chance of backing out now, we've put too much into it.

You need defined roles, i.e. you do the marketing and admin, he does the procurement and operations, or something like that.

I see it daily, not just with spouses, but also with joint ventures/partnerships of friends/colleagues. No proper separation of roles mean you're constantly interfering with eachother.

You need defined roles and then each of you can tell the other to back off when they stray into "your" areas.

You're absolutely right, Kazzy, and we did start out with defined roles, but somehow my roles now seem broader than his. Grin
For example, we had to complete some tax forms recently and he's supposed to be taking care of the financials...but I did them and worked with the accountant!

I'm sure most of this is growing pains during our first year in business, plus WFH during the pandemic. Too many opportunities for him to mention what needs doing. Grin
