Another furlough one....

Hi all

I work for a company that has branches all around the country and due to recent times, 5 are to close.

I work at one of them so my role is under consultation with risk of redundancy. I am currently furloughed and have been since March

My options are a role in another branch or redundancy

My question is that as my branch closed with immediate effect on Monday, am I still classed as furloughed?? I have asked this question of my HR via email but no reply.

Yes you are. It's a fine distinction, but people aren't made redundant, jobs are. Your job still currently exists, even if your branch doesn't. So your furlough continues until it is formally terminated, either by a return to work or by termination of contract (redundancy).

You’re still furloughed unless/until your employer brings you back from furlough. The fact that your branch closed doesn’t change the fact you are furloughed.

Your employment may be terminated by reason of redundancy and if that happens you’ll be told, but that is separate to whether you remain on furlough- if you are confirmed as being redundant and serving notice, you’ll still be on furlough unless they tell you to come back to work.

Thank you both for that - makes sense
