Requesting updated job description

What are the consequences of asking for a review of your job description ? Will they be forced to re advertise the role and I may have to reapply ?

I have been in post 5 yrs. my role has changed to my original
Job description but I have been financially compensated for that. But my JD has never been updated so on 'paper' I'm carrying out a junior role.

I would like my JD updated to reflect what I do and what I should be doing. But will this cause an unintended consequence and backfire ?

As part of a team I was in we updated our job role to reflect what pay we were requesting as part of a pay rise- it was very outdated and didnt reflect the hard work we actually did. We got the pay rise and an updated job profile. No re-applying etc, gave HR some headache but they knew if the description and money didn’t reflect the duties carried out that there would be action taken by the team.

You should speak to your manager in the first place. It’s worth this aporia has in the first place because they are aware of the changes and presumably agreed to your pay rise. HR might be responsible for job descriptions but are usually informed by line managers about changes.

It’s important it is changed. It forms part of your contract. It’s what you do and your employers should alter it. How can you have an accurate performance review if it’s not accurate? If you have an annual review, you could mention it then but it does need to be altered and it’s reasonable to ask.

It’s worth this approach .....
